Michael E. Wilson

Mr. Wilson has more than twenty years of patent law experience. His practice is devoted to intellectual property law, and he has represented clients in cases involving allegations of patent infringement, insurance coverage for patent infringement, breach of patent license, trade secret misappropriation, violation of Lanham Act, toxic tort and trademark infringement. The technology involved in those cases included ethylene oxide catalysis, olefin catalysis, characterization of polyolefin molecules, motor oil testing, automobile fuel additives, motorcycle helmets, pipeline liners, geotechnical engineering, knee replacements, cataract surgery, hydraulic fracturing of oil and gas producing formations, enzyme use in oil and gas producing formations, pipeline flow measurement, offshore pipelines, offshore drilling rigs, natural gas desulfurization, cable modems, arthritis medication, aretic acid production, directional drilling, drilling with casing, casing running, and website business methods. In his early years of law practice, he drafted and prosecuted patent applications, performed due diligence studies, negotiated and drafted contracts, and prepared opinions of the scope and validity of patents. He was formerly with Baker Botts, LLP for 10 years and was elected equity partner there in 1997.

Mr. Wilson is admitted to practice in Texas, Oklahoma, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of Texas, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the United States Supreme Court, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Wilson is a member of the American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, Houston Bar Association, and the Houston Intellectual Property Law Association.

Mr. Wilson received his J.D. from the University of Tulsa in 1987 and received his B.S., with honors, in Chemical Engineering from the University of Arkansas in 1981. Mr. Wilson worked as a research engineer in petroleum refining for Phillips Petroleum Company for six years before receiving his law degree. He worked as a patent attorney for Exxon for two years before joining Baker Botts.
