Intellectual Property Litigation
Attorneys of the firm have been involved in many, major patent trials, including in the oil and gas, chemical, medical, and telecommunications industries. Regarding oil and gas, the firm’s cases have involved drilling and fracturing, offshore pipeline, deepwater drilling rig, and downhole tool technologies. The firm’s chemical cases have involved polyolefin catalyst, polyolefin production, motor oil additives, and razor blade technologies. The firm has handled medical cases regarding knee replacement surgery, eye surgery, and pharmaceutical license agreements. Regarding the telecommunications industry, the firm has worked extensively on significant cases covering telecommunication networks regarding cable and fiber networks, communications protocols of the internet protocol suite, including physical layer, link layer and internet layer protocols, as well as modulation techniques used in digital signal processing.
The firm has also handled litigations regarding copyright infringement, breach of contract, and other business and commercial causes of action. In addition, Mr. Slusser litigated a significant trademark case in which the judgment was affirmed on appeal. He has also served as an arbitrator in a complex patent licensing and infringement dispute, in an insurance claim arising from the flooding of Bayer College of Medicine and a well damage case.
Mr. Slusser, Mr. Wilson, Ms. Partridge, Ms. Piana, and Mr. McKean have engineering degrees; Mr. Slusser and Mr. McKean-Electrical, Mr. Wilson and Ms. Piana-Chemical, and Ms. Partridge-Mechanical. Mr. Wilson, Ms. Partridge and Ms. Piana are licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office although the firm does not write or prosecute patent or trademark applications.
